Making technology less confusing with HomeGuardian

We know that new technology can be confusing, especially when it comes to artificial intelligence.

Not only is the way we use certain devices changing, but the terminology is changing too. If you’ve found yourself scratching your head when it comes to new tech, don’t worry!

We’ve got you covered…

Here are some commonly used terms:

☞ “Artificial Intelligence”

Artificial Intelligence is an advanced computer system that has similar problem solving skills to a human brain. In HomeGuardian’s case, the device’s Artificial Intelligence capabilities mean that it can differentiate between normal and abnormal behaviour, which is what makes it able to detect falls.

☞ “On the edge”

On the edge refers to alerts that are processed on the HomeGuardian device. Essentially, when we say that our devices process alerts ‘on the edge’, we’re talking about the fact that your information isn’t leaving the device. This not only makes the device more private and secure, but it also ensures your data isn’t being viewed by a third party.

☞ “Automatic escalation”

Automatic Escalation is the process that the HomeGuardian devices undertakes to ensure your emergency contacts know you’re in distress. This process uses HomeGuardian’s Artificial Intelligence to determine that an incident has taken place, then automatically tells your contacts that you need help – all without you needing to press a button – it does it all itself.

☞ “Incident detection”

Incident detection is the process that HomeGuardian goes through to ensure it’s raising an alert for an incident. If the HomeGuardian suspects you’re behaving abnormally or have fallen, its status light will turn orange while it’s determining that it’s not raising a false alarm. Then, it will turn red, and send you a message asking if you’re alright. You then have the option to let it know you’re ok if it was a false alarm. If not, don’t respond and the device will escalate an alert. The incident detection > Automatic escalation process will take 2 seconds.

☞ “Passive monitoring”

Passive monitoring refers to two things –

1. The fact that HomeGuardian is a set-and-forget technology. You don’t need to do anything to maintain the device (except maybe give it a dust here and there).

2. The fact that HomeGuardian blends right in – you might not even know it’s there with its non-clinical look!

☞ “Private and secure”

Private and Secure means that no identifiable data is stored on the device, and the device never takes image, video or sound recordings.
