How to maintain your privacy with assistive technology

Adding assistive technology to your life is a highly personal decision that should ideally lead to an outcome of support, safety and independence in your life.

Regardless of your circumstances, your privacy and dignity should never be compromised in the name of independence or assistance. That’s where we come in.

Here at HomeGuardian, we are proud to say our fall detection and automatic escalation assistive technology device is 100% private, secure, and non-invasive.

What HomeGuardian does

HomeGuardian is a world-first care assistive technology device that utilises non-invasive artificial intelligence to make independence achievable and comfortable.

The device’s patented AI-driven incident detection technology supports you on the path to independent living, without the fear of being alone when something is wrong.

Through state-of-the-art artificial intelligence, the device can determine what is and is not normal in your environment. The system is designed to work in your home; it’s also fully automatic and works in the dark.

When HomeGuardian notices a critical incident such as a fall, it automatically sends an alert to up to three nominated emergency contacts within 2 seconds of the incident detection. There’s no need to press a button, make a phone call, or activate an alarm via voice commands.

If you experience a fall, HomeGuardian will ensure that you won’t be left alone and can get the timely post-fall care you deserve.

Your privacy is our priority

Here’s how HomeGuardian is committed to proactively protecting your independence and privacy through our award-winning fall detection technology:

No images, videos or sounds are recorded - ever

HomeGuardian devices don’t record, capture or transmit any photos, videos or audio at any time. Even in the event of an incident, the device will only ever recognise that something is wrong and communicate that to your emergency contacts - but it will never stream any of your personal information.

Privacy-optimised artificial intelligence

The device’s artificial intelligence performs object detection through a data-driven circular sensor. The device recognises people and objects through an algorithm that essentially assigns each object a ‘box’. For your privacy, no determination is made by the device about what’s occurring in a room beyond those ‘boxes’.

We’ve made an overlay to show you how the device senses an environment, which we’ve imposed over a video of our CEO explaining the device. (This is a demonstration only, filmed with a camera - HomeGuardian devices will never record video.)

Secure network operation across all devices

HomeGuardian devices do not have location-sharing capabilities or anything related that would compromise your privacy or safety. Our SOS buttons that work in tandem with HomeGuardian devices also work on a secure Bluetooth connection pre-configured to communicate only with your HomeGuardian device.

SOS buttons and the HomeGuardian.AI 4G/5G routers that we offer also do not hold any personal or identifiable data.

Protected User Portal

The HomeGuardian User Portal is run on a secure network, meaning you will see ‘https’ in front of the User Portal’s domain address. The ‘s’ stands for ‘secure’, meaning that the site is encrypted to protect your data. Essentially this means the information on the site cannot be viewed by anyone else on the network.

This is how text appears to hackers on a HTTP site that is not secure.

HTTPS data looks like this: 0IRyiEhVpa6VnKyExMiEgNveroyWBPlgGyfkflYjDaa

Nothing to wear or charge

The medical definition of non-invasive essentially refers to minimal contact with the body, and our device also adheres to this definition. With HomeGuardian, you don’t need to remember to charge, wear, or recharge anything. HomeGuardian is a passive technology, meaning once you plug it in and install it, it will begin working and monitoring. Our CEO Kane Sajdak summed it up perfectly in a recent podcast:

You’re always in control of your experience

HomeGuardian’s User Portal allows you to have control over your data. The User Portal gives you secure 24/7 access to your personal details, emergency contacts, fall history and device status. Through the Portal, you’re also able to put your device to sleep and change the sensitivity of the device’s sensor to match your needs.

Change your emergency contacts any time - day or night - and manually request assistance if needed through the HomeGuardian User Portal.
